This Model Chopped Off 3 Feet Hair for the Miu Miu Runway—And She’s Almost Unrecognizable

These days, nothing feels more fresh than a just-shorn crop, but there was something downright breathtaking about the dramatic hair transformation on yesterday’s Miu Miu Resort 2019 runway in Paris.
Amid the star-studded model lineup (Miuccia Prada’s phoned in everyone from actress Uma Thurman to rising singer Kaya Wilkins) clad in plume-trimmed mini-dresses, diaphanous floor-length dusters, and print pajama sets with fluffy slippers on the runway inside Hôtel Régina, English rose and real-life Rapunzel Lucan Gillespie was practically unrecognizable, ditching her waist-length waves for a pale micropixie courtesy of hairstylist Guido Palau.

Drastically recalibrating Gillespie’s look from ethereal bohemian to gamine ingenue, her androgynous cut—paired with one of Prada’s baby doll dresses—was decidedly reminiscent of Mia Farrow’s shocking chop for 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby, yet offered a modern twist with abbreviated forehead-grazing fringe that called to mind the ’20s and ’30s proportions of Louise Brooks. A bleached set of brows added a hint of subversion.
Tapping into the boy-cut fever of the past few seasons while coolly referencing the past, Gillespie’s directional new look proves that with a singular vision and fearless attitude, a life-changing metamorphosis is always just a snip of the scissors away.
